How to backup your journals

Securing your Diarly journal entries is vital for preserving your valuable memories and notes. Diarly provides straightforward options for both automatic and manual backups, catering to different user preferences for convenience and control.

Backup with iCloud Sync

Diarly simplifies the backup process with its iCloud Sync feature. This automatic backup ensures all your journal entries are securely stored in iCloud, safeguarding them against potential data loss from computer issues or other unforeseen events.

Note: iCloud Sync is only available to Diarly Premium users.

Manual backup options

For users seeking additional backup security or wanting to store data in alternate locations, Diarly offers a manual backup solution using Markdown Exporter.

On Mac

  1. Click on the Menu Bar.
  2. Navigate to File > Export > Markdown.
  3. Select the journal you want to export, and choose where to save the exported zip file.

On iOS

  1. Navigate to Settings.
  2. Select Export > Markdown.
  3. Choose the journal you want to export, and save the zip file to your preferred location.

The zip file includes .md (Markdown) files along with images from your journal entries. You can re-import these files into Diarly or view them in any standard text editor.

Important: When re-importing markdown entries into Diarly, the app intelligently skips entries that already exist to prevent duplicating your data.
