How Diarly works with iCloud

Diarly uses your Apple iCloud account to store your journal safely and privately. There’s no need to register, log in, or create a Diarly account — everything works with your Apple ID.

🔒 iCloud sync and encryption are part of Diarly Premium. Learn more about encryption in Diarly.

Where your data is stored

Your entries, media, and app settings are saved directly to iCloud Drive, using the Apple ID set up on your device. Diarly does not store your journal on external servers. If you do not have Diarly Premium, your entries, media, and app settings are saved on your device.

Sync your journals

If you use Diarly on multiple Apple devices, iCloud keeps your journal up to date automatically.

To enable sync:

  1. Sign in with the same Apple ID on all devices.
  2. Turn on iCloud Drive in system settings.
  3. Allow Diarly to use iCloud.

To check iCloud settings, go to Settings → [your name] → iCloud → iCloud Drive.

💡 If sync isn’t working as expected, see Syncing problems for help.

Add a layer of protection

By default, entries are saved as plain text in iCloud Drive.

With Diarly Premium, you can enable encryption to protect your journal with a password. Only you can unlock encrypted entries — not even Diarly can access them.

🔐 If you forget your password, encrypted entries cannot be recovered. Learn more in Encryption in Diarly.
