Privacy and security
Your journal in Diarly is private by default — stored securely on your device or in your iCloud Drive. You’re always in control of your data.
Password lock and Face ID or Touch ID unlock are included in Free and Premium. Optional encryption and iCloud sync are part of Diarly Premium.
Lock access to Diarly
You can set a password to prevent others from opening the app. On supported devices, you can also use Face ID, Touch ID, or Apple Watch to unlock Diarly.

⚠️ If someone else has biometric access to your device, they may be able to unlock Diarly as well.
Encrypt your journal
When enabled, encryption protects the text of your entries and notes before it is stored on your device or synced through iCloud. Images and other attachments are not encrypted by Diarly.
If you forget your encryption password, your entries can’t be recovered. To learn how to enable encryption, visit How to enable encryption.
Create backups or export entries
To keep an extra copy of your journal, you can create a local backup or export selected entries:
Diarly does not store your diary on its servers. Your diary is stored on your device, with optional Premium sync through your own iCloud. Encryption is optional and applies to entry text. If you choose OpenAI-powered features in the AI Assistant or AI+, the content needed for those requests is sent to OpenAI; see AI features and privacy.
